Doug Joy is the General Manager of the ORWC, which he co-founded in 1998. Over the past several years Doug has participated in over 75 workshops dealing with on-site issues and has headed up over a dozen research studies focusing on on-site wastewater treatment technologies, approaches and other subjects related to the field.

Doug has been a full time faculty member at the School of Engineering at the University of Guelph for the past 25 years. As a professor of water resources engineering, his main areas of research are as follows:

  • Impact of on-site systems on ground and surface waters
  • On-site System Design and Regulation
  • Bacterial Transport in Hydrologic Systems and River Processes

Doug is the past president of the Ontario Onsite Wastewater Association, a past member of the Building materials Evaluation Committee and has participated on the Technical Review Committee on changes to Part 8 of the Ontario Building Code.
